We are excited to announce that Dr. Collins is now offering patients in SW Florida laser vision correction with CustomVue!
Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Florida has recently acquired wavefront technology in the form of the VISX WaveScan system. We can link this wavefront technology with our VISX Star S4 Excimer Laser System to provide CustomVue customized laser vision correction. The FDA has approved this technology for the treatment of myopic astigmatism with a spherical equivalent (MRSE) of up to minus 6.5D with cylinder up to minus 3.5D. We have already started treating patients with this new technology and we are very pleased with our results thus far.
Wavefront technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes by astronomers to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. VISX CustomVue is an individualized laser vision correction procedure that is WaveScan driven. The WaveScan is a wavefront device that enables a doctor to measure and correct optical imperfections that are unique to each individual’s vision that could not have been measured before. Wavefront can identify and measure imperfections in an individual’s eye beyond the sphere and cylinder currently used for glasses and contact lenses. This information is then transferred to the VISC Star 4 Excimer Laser System to perform the customized vision correction procedure.
Dr. Collins was an investigator in FDA trials conducted a few years ago, which are leading to the current FDA approval of customized laser vision correction. He has experience with 6 different wavefront devices and has lectured both domestically and internationally on using wavefront in a clinical practice.
